Hiring a contractor for a roof wash, gutter clean, or another exterior cleaning service can be risky, especially in Seattle. Forgive us for being a broken record; our Pacific Northwest climate introduces a lot of variables to account for when finding your service provider. Fortunately, today we will not explore those variables (many of our blogs address the nuances of our climate, but today we’ll point you to our blog on gutter guards if you’re curious to learn more about this topic). Instead, we’ll share how you can use the Google Guarantee to protect yourself when hiring a company to clean your property.
What is the Google Guarantee?
The Google Guarantee is a verification by Google that a service provider has met local standards as a high-quality service provider in your area. If you hire a contractor backed by the Google Guarantee and are not satisfied with their service, you may be reimbursed for the service cost of up to $2,000.
What does the Google Guarantee mean for you?
If you hire a Google Guaranteed contractor, you could be covered for the service cost if you’re unhappy with the job performed (capped at $2,000). But that’s not all. Google ensures that a contractor has the necessary insurance for their services before stamping them with their guarantee. To the homeowner, this may seem obvious. To those of us who work in this industry, we know that’s a big deal. Many contractors power wash homes but only have vehicle insurance, for example. Or, other businesses start out cleaning windows and add power washing to their services to meet customer demand. Unbeknownst to them, however, they need insurance specifically for this service. The Google Guarantee protects you from hiring a provider who lacks insurance for their services (see here for more on Google’s screening and verification process).
So, a provider with a Google Guarantee is actually “double-backed.” The contractor itself has the necessary insurance to protect you, and Google confirms this while offering money back if you’re not satisfied. The chances are slim that you would ever need to receive reimbursement for a service with the Google Guarantee badge, not because Google won’t honor its promise. Instead, it’s because the guarantee ensures there is a very low risk that you’ll be dissatisfied. On the other hand, if you hire a company without the Google Guarantee, you increase your risk of dissatisfaction and may incur costs beyond the service price (e.g., they damage your property and lack the insurance to cover the repairs).
